Labour providers have hit the
news recently as the Gangmasters
Licensing Authority (GLA) revoked
its first licences. Seven licences in
total were revoked – including one
with immediate effect.The story has
highlighted the fact that both labour
providers and users are liable under
the legislation – and in this case, the
labour user could be the first fresh
produce operator to be prosecuted
since the GLA was formed.
In fact, the GLA has been exercising its
powers on a regular basis since the
legislation came into force last year. In
March this year, it heard eight appeals
by labour providers – all of which
were dismissed. It has also been using

Vital Recruitment has linked up with the Department for Work and
Pensions (DWP) in a move that will see the labour provider further
improve the excellent service it offers to its workforce. As one of the
largest employers in the Peterborough area, the DWP approached Vital
to arrange a new service whereby its representatives will visit Vital’s
headquarters once a month, in order to issue new staff with National
Insurance numbers. This is far more convenient for Vital’s workforce,
who previously had to travel to their nearest Jobcentre Plus in order to
be issued with the number.
Vital’s General Manager Terry Waite said:
“We are delighted that the DWP has recognised us as one of the
biggest labour providers in the area.Their monthly presence at our
offices will undoubtedly be of great benefit to our workforce.” |

Vital Recruitment has demonstrated a commitment
to reducing its carbon footprint by investing in two new ‘green’ Mini
Coopers, which arrived at Vital’s Endeavour House headquarters in April.
The Mini Cooper Diesel 118 is the most fuel-efficient and cleanest Mini
that has ever been built, and its low carbon emission of 118 g/km
means that it falls into tax band B (which costs just L35 a year, in
recognition of the car’s
‘green’ credentials). It also
contains a diesel particulate
filter,which eliminates

all diesel exhaust
emissions and makes it one
of the most environmentally friendly
engines in its class. |
